LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - West Chester University Jr., MLB Ronell Williams was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) Eastern Division defensive player of the week it was announced by that organization Sunday afternoon.
WIlliams is the first defensive player to be honored by the PSAC in its weekly awards. He is the second player from the Golden Rams to be recognized. Rondell White was named offensive player of the week Sept. 9.
Williams posted a season-best 15 tackles in West Chester's 22-21 win over Kutztown Saturday night. Perhaps his biggest stop of the day came on a 3rd-and-1 when he stuffed KU fullback Justin Michalak, who tried to bull his way up the middle for the first down. It forced Kutztown to punt with two minutes left in the game and KU holding a 21-16 lead. Williams later broke up a pass on 3rd-and-10 at around the WCU 35-yard line that forced a 4th down for KU while they were trying to drive into field goal range with under a minute to play.
No. 19/20 West Chester (4-0, 2-0 PSAC East) takes on No. 25 California (Pa.) next Saturday at John A. Farrell Stadium at 12 p.m.
