WEST CHESTER, Pa. - No. 2 and undefeated Gannon University demonstrated why it is the class of the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference on Saturday afternoon with an 87-64 victory over host West Chester inside Hollinger Field House.
West Chester (9-4) saw its modest three-game win streak come to a close while Gannon (14-0) upped its winning streak to 14 games.
Gannon jumped out to a 9-0 lead and never trailed in the game. West Chester would get as close as six points with three minutes left in the first half. That was thanks in large part to the outside shooting of Dallas Ely, who scored 15 of her 19 points in the first half. But, Gannon pushed that advantage back into double digits by the second half and led by as many as 24 points.
Ely was 5-for-6 from beyond the 3-point arc, including a perfect 5-for-5 showing in the first 20 minutes. Both Brittany Sicinski and Serifat Junaid contributed 11 points while Chikisha Steele-Hook put up 10. The rest of the team had just 13 points combined.
Gannon took 71 shots and still posted a 45.1 percent shooting percentage from the field for the game. West Chester made just seven baskets in the second half, mustering just 22 points for the frame.
Gannon's Brittany Batts poured in 19 points while Nettie Blake and Jen Papich each added 18. Blake finished with a double-double, pulling down a game-high 16 rebounds, including 10 on the offensive glass.
West Chester travels to Clarion on Wednesday for its last non-conference and PSAC West crossover encounter of the season. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
