BETHLEHEM, Pa. -
Junior diver Christian Parker (Reading, Pa./Exeter) hit national qualifying marks off both boards on Friday night, and West Chester won nine events in all to down Division I foe Lehigh, 167-137 for the third consecutive year.
Parker led a clean sweep of the top three spots off both diving boards with a 317.70 score on the 1-meter board and a 316.42 on the 3-meter board.
Dan Roy (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) was runner-up on the 1-meter with a score of 281.62 while finishing third on the 3-meter (259.80).
Zach Burns (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) finished third on the 1m (239.63) and runner-up on the 3-meter (285.23). Roy missed qualifying for nationals by less than five points off the 1-meter springboard while Burns missed the national mark by the same margin on the 3-meter springboard.
In the pool,
Victor Polyakov (Toganrog, Russia) won the 200-yard backstroke and the 500 freestyle while swimming the anchor leg of the 400 free relay team that also picked up a win Friday. Polyakov posted a time of 1 minute, 55.07 seconds in the 200 back and a time of 4:36.48. He teamed up with Dan Sokman, Evan Sherkness and Jared Haley to win the 400 free relay in 3:09.65.
Haley led a one-two finish for the Golden Rams in the 1000 free with a time of 9:46.93 while teammate Bradley Strathmeyer was right behind him in 9:52.91. That was one of six events in which West Chester claimed at least the top two spots.
Bogdan Grebenyuk (Donetsk, Ukraine) won the 100 breaststroke in 58.39 with Mike Oliver right behind in 59.13. Oliver won the 200 breast in 2:08.27 while Grebenyuk placed second in 2:11.87.
Tommy McCormick (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) was third in 2:12.24.
Luke Maguire (Conshohocken, Pa./LaSalle Prep) won the 100 butterfly, touching out in 51.34, and teammate
Eric Long (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) was second in 52.66.
