No. 20 West Chester Knocks Off Cheyney, 58-0

Box Score

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – RB Jarel Elder (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) rushed for a career-high 107 yards and a touchdown as 20th-ranked West Chester held visiting Cheyney to a just 47 yards of total offense and only three first downs in a 58-0 victory Saturday afternoon at rain-soaked Farrell Stadium.

West Chester (8-1, 7-1 PSAC) bounced back from its first loss of the season last week at Bloomsburg by opening up a 28-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. QB Sean McCartney (Doylestown, Pa./Archbishop Wood) threw two of his three TD passes on the day during that stretch. RB Brandon Monk (West Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) also rushed for a pair of scores. Sr. WR Mike Doty (Chalfont, Pa./Central Bucks South) caught six passes for 63 yards and two of McCartney's three TDs. McCartney finished 11-for-16 for 122 yards and three TDs in less than one half of play.

Sr., DE Mike Culbreath (Hatfield, Pa./North Penn) led West Chester's stellar defensive effort with seven tackles, including five tackles for a loss, two forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and a pair of sacks. He did all of that in just three quarters of play. Cheyney fumbled the ball six times and lost the fumble four of those times. Pete Galiano (Haddon Heights, N.J./Camden Catholic) had six tackles for the Golden Rams.

West Chester returns to action next Saturday with a pivotal PSAC Eastern Division showdown at East Stroudsburg.
