West Chester Men Sink Bloomsburg, 168.5-93.5

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – West Chester claimed first place in 11 events, and Victor Polyakov (Toganrog, Russia) won three of those while swimming a leg on another relay winner, as the visiting Golden Rams downed host Bloomsburg, 168.5-93.5 at Nelson Fieldhouse Pool Saturday afternoon.
 
West Chester claimed the top two spots in five events as well, showing off its depth early in the season. Polyakov won the 100-yard backstroke (51.42 seconds), 100 freestyle (46.48) and the 200 individual medley (1:54.97) while swimming the first leg of the 400 medley relay team that took first place in a time of 3:27.80.
 
Freshman Tom McCormick (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) recorded two runner-up performances and a third-place showing while classmate Eric Long (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) woon the 200 butterfly (1:55.11), was runner-up in the 100 fly (:52.24), placed third in the 200 back (1:59.05) and swam the third leg of the 400 medley relay team that took first place.
 
Bradley Strathmeyer (York, Pa./York) won the 200 free in 1:43.65 and placed second in the 500 free (4:50.67) behind teammate Connor Forlini (Warminster, Pa./William Tennett), who took top honors in a time of 4:46.84.
 
Dan Sokman (Russia) was runner up in the 200 back (1:58.59) and placed third in the 200 free (1:45.75).
 
Jared Haley (Dillsburg, Pa./Northern York) won the 1000 free in 9:43.59, Evan Sherkness Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth Whitemarsh) won the 50 free sprint in :27.67, Mike Oliver (Howard, N.J./Freehold Twp.) won the 200 breast in 2:09.35 and Luke Maguire (Conshohocken, Pa./LaSalle Prep) won the 100 fly in 52.13. Oliver added a third place in the 200 breast (:58.87) and a fourth-place finish in the 200 IM (2:00.33).
 
West Chester is off until it travels to the University of Pittsburgh Invitational Nov. 21-23.
