West Chester Heads To Pitt-Johnstown For PSAC Quarterfinal Matchup

JOHNSTOWN, Pa. – West Chester University's women's volleyball squad opens play in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) quarterfinals on Tuesday, Nov. 11 at Pitt-Johnstown.
 
West Chester (20-13), the third seed out of the Eastern Division in the conference tournament takes on second-seeded Pitt-Johnstown (19-12) at 7 p.m. inside the Sports Center on its campus. Tickets to the quarterfinal round match are $7 for adults and $2 for children. Fans with a valid ID from any of the PSAC member institutions will be admitted free. No comp tickets are available. Only PSAC passes will be honored at the door.
 
Pitt-Johnstown, the defending PSAC tournament champions, and West Chester split this season's two matches with each team winning on its home court.  On October 3 in West Chester, the Golden Rams defeated the Lady Cats, 3-1, (25-14, 26-24, 24-26, 32-30).  Pitt-Johnstown responded with a 3-1 (24-26, 25-15, 25-19, 28-26) victory on November 1 in the Sports Center.

Over their final 10 matches, the Lady Cats are 8-2, while the Golden Rams are 7-3.
 
Senior middle hitter Julia O'Brien (New Holland, Pa./Garden Spot) leads West Chester's attack. She has 395 kills on the year and is just five shy of becoming the seventh player in school history to record at least 400 kills in a single season. Her 982 career kills stands ninth all-time in West Chester volleyball history. O'Brien sports a .288 hitting percentage on the year as well.
 
Junior Marina Sharkey (Newtown Square, Pa./Archbishop Carroll) is West Chester's main threat on the outside. She has 275 kills and averages 2.52 kills per set. Junior Cara Reese (Pittsburgh, Pa./Fox Chapel) is another sound threat in the front row. Sophomore Libero Callie Krajcir (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) will play in her 200th career set when the Golden Rams take to the hardwood on Tuesday for set number one of the match. She has a career-high 485 digs on the season and is just 66 shy of 1,000 in her career. Her 485 digs in 2014 ranks 10th best in a single season in school history.  
 
Annalee Halbert (Port Murray, N.J./West Morris Central) will be the one responsible for setting O'Brien, Sharkey and the other hitters. She recorded 793 assists in 98 sets this fall. She also posted 27 service aces and 210 digs on the year.
 
The Lady Cats are led by a pair of freshmen in middle hitter Kendall Mahony and outside hitter Cambria Wierman. Mahony leads Pitt-Johnstown at 2.78 kills per set and .78 bocks per set and is second with 59 service aces, while Wierman is second on the team at 2.71 kills per set and third in digs with 261. Delaney Roman enters the tournament with a team-high 60 aces. Nikki Oakes and Nicole Curran have combined to average nearly 10 set assists per set, and Devan Orr has a team-best 744 digs.
 
Tuesday's quarterfinal round winner advances to the PSAC Semifinals, which will be played at the highest remaining seed to come out of the Western Division. Those two semifinal matches will be played on Saturday with the championship game being played on Sunday at 12 p.m.
