Box Score FAIRMONT, W.Va. - West Chester senior Cory Blake (West Chester, Pa./Rustin) came right out the gate with 23 points on 10-of-12 shooting from the field to lead the Golden Rams to a 73-54 victory over West Virginia Wesleyan in their season opener on the first day of the Joe Retton Classic at Fairmont University Friday night.
Junior transfer Avery Brown (Mt. Laurel, NJ / Lenape) finished with 15 points in his Golden Rams' debut.Eric Frans (Lehigh, Pa./Saucon Valley) contributed 10 points in the winning effort to round out the double-digit scoring.
Matt Wiseley (Emmaus, Pa./Emmaus) led the team with six rebounds and six assists in his starting role at small forward.
West Chester shot an incredible 52.6 percent from beyond the arc compared to 38-percent for the Bobcats. The Golden Rams also out-rebounded the Bobcats, 33-22, and it led to points as the Golden Rams outscored Wesleyan 26-8 in the paint.
The Golden Rams will get some rest and get back on the hardwood to take on host, Fairmont University tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. on the second and final day of the Joe Retton Classic.
