West Chester Falls To Phila U. In Double OT, 97-92

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – West Chester put six players in double figures, led by Cory Blake's 20, however, the Golden Rams fell to visiting Philadelphia University, 97-92, in double overtime inside Hollinger Field House Saturday afternoon.
 
West Chester (3-3) was down 12-2 right out of the gate, after missing on six of its first seven attempts from the field. But, the Golden Rams battled back with 23 points off the bench to lead 41-34 at the Half. Phila U (3-3) stayed close the entire second half, and with five seconds left in regulation, Derek Johnson tied the game with a 3-pointer to send the game into overtime.
 
The Golden Rams had a two-point lead, 78-76, until a foul was committed before Philadelphia U could put the ball in play, which allowed the Rams to send it into double-overtime with two free throws.  Phila U would out-rebound West Chester 10-3 in the second overtime, which allowed them to secure the ball and hang on for the victory.
 
Senior Cory Blake (West Chester, Pa./Rustin) led the Golden Rams with 20 points, shooing 50-percent from the field. Mike Wilson (Philadelphia, Pa./Martin Luther King) finished second in scoring with 19 points, shooting 6-for-14 from the field, including 5 of 13 from 3-point range in the loss.
 
Junior Matt Wiseley (Emmaus, Pa./ Emmaus) had an great  all-around game going for 17 points, nine rebounds, five steals, three assists and  shooting 8 of 11 from the field, including a breakaway dunk in the five-point loss.
 
Parrish Grant (Philadelphia, Pa./Imhotep Charter) and Avery Brown (Mt. Laurel, N.J./Lenape) both contributed 11 points while Grant added nine assists. Eric Frans (Lehigh, Pa./Saucon Valley) rounded out the double-digit scoring with 10 points and six rebounds.
 
Phila U's 6-9 center, Peter Alexis, had a huge game with a double-double of a team high 25 points and 22 rebounds. Johnson tied Alexis with 25 points. Nick Schlitzer added 23 points, while point guard, Austin Gibbs gave 17 in the winning effort. All of the visiting Rams' points were provided from their starting five.
 
The Golden Rams will now try to rebound as they will head on the road to play Lock Haven on Wednesday at 7:30 p.m. to open a four-game road trip.
