Chikisha Steele-Hook (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Twp.) added 13 points and eight rebounds, but visiting West Chester University dropped its first game of the season, 69-61, to Gannon University inside the Hammermill Center Wednesday night.
West Chester (8-1, 5-1 PSAC) saw its eight-game winning streak to open the season come to a close while also suffering its first conference loss of the year to Gannon (6-3, 5-1). West Chester's eight wins to open the year are the most since the 2000-01 campaign when current head coach Kiera Wooden was a sophomore.
The Golden Rams put three players in double figures as
Brittany Sicinski (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) added 12 points. Senior
Serifat Junaid (Chesilhurst, N.J./Camden Catholic) put up eight points and 10 rebounds off the bench. However, West Chester shot just 31.8 from the field, including 29.6 percent in the first half. Gannon jumped out to a 33-26 lead by halftime, and never looked back.
West Chester returns home from a four-game road trip to host Clarion University at 1 p.m. on Saturday inside Hollinger Field House.
