Shippensburg Defeats West Chester, 95-80

Box Score

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Sophomore Dallas Ely scored a career-high 32 points, but it was not enough to overcome Shippensburg's 13 3-pointers as the host Golden Rams fell at home to the visiting Raiders, 95-80, Saturday afternoon in a conference tilt inside Hollinger Field House.

West Chester (17-7, 12-2 PSAC East) saw its six-game winning streak come to a close with just the Rams' second league loss of the year. Shippensburg (15-8, 9-4) made a school-record 13 3-pointers, shooting 48.1 percent (13 of 27) from beyond the arc in the win.

Ely's 32 points, the most by a Golden Rams player since 2004, tied Shippensburg's Sarah Strybuc for game high honors. Ely went 11-for-20 from the floor, including 6 of 11 from 3-point range, while Strybuc was 10 of 14 from the field, including 8 of 11 from beyond the arc.

Serifat Junaid added 15 points off the bench for West Chester while Anna Kuntz posted her sixth double-double on the year with 10 points and 12 rebounds. She also blocked a career-high five shots.

Strybuc led four players in double figures for the Raiders. Caitlyn Deeter had 16 off the bench while Stephanie Knauer and Morgan Griffith each posted 15 points. Griffin capped her eighth career double-double effort with 13 boards Saturday.

Shippensburg finished 31-for-65 (47.7 percent) from the field overall, as compared to West Chester's 32-for-81 (39.5 percent).

West Chester paid tribute to their lone senior, Liz Kane, on Senior Day in a brief pre-game ceremony. The contest also served as the school's annual Play4Kay game in which the University helps to raise money for breast cancer awareness and research for the Kay Yow Cancer Fund.

West Chester remains in first place in the Eastern Division standings by one-half game over Bloomsburg, who is 11-2 in conference play. Those two meet up on Wednesday evening inside Nelson Fieldhouse in Bloomsburg. That matchup will most likely decide the division champion.

West Chester has not won the PSAC Eastern Division title since 2009, and has not won it outright since 2003.
