WEST CHESTER, Pa. -
Victor Polyakov (Russia) was a double winner in the pool while
Dan Roy (Collegeville, Pa./Methacton) was a double winner on the diving boards, but Ivy League opponent Penn defeated host West Chester, 172-122, in a non-league men's swim meet inside Graham Natatorium Friday night.
Polyakov won the 200-yard freestyle in a time of 1 minute, 40.27 seconds and the 200 individual medley in 1:52.64 for West Chester's two wins in the pool. Roy scored a 263.18 on the 1-meter board and a 273.30 on the 3m board to pick up 18 points for the Golden Rams as well. WCU's 200 free relay team consisting of
Nathan Smith (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Twp.),
Evan Sherkness (Plymouth Meeting, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh),
Dan Sokman (Russia) and
Bradley Strathmeyer (York, Pa./York) posted a winning time of 1:25.07 for West Chester's only other victory Friday night.
Tim Cenjia (Greensburg, Pa./Greater Latrobe) was runner-up off the 1m springboard with a score of 240.23 while finishing third on the 3m board with a 238.13.
Zach Burns (Clarks Summit, Pa./Abington Heights) was runner-up on the 3m board with a 263.48 and third on the 1m board with a 206.55.
Thomas McCormick (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) finished third in the 200 IM while
Mike Oliver (Howell, N.J./Freehold) was fourth in support of Polyakov's winning effort.
Luke Maguire (Conshohockan, Pa./LaSalle Prep) and
Eric Long (Greensburg, Pa./Hempfield) finished second and third in the 100 butterfly. Oliver was also a runner-up in the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:03.96. Sherkness was runner-up in the 50 free.
West Chester travels to New York City for the NYU Invitational Feb. 6-7 for its final tune-up before the 2015 PSAC Championships Feb. 20-23 in York, Pa.
