Box Score SLIPPERY ROCK, Pa. – Junior
Lexi Brown (Levittown, Pa./Pennsbury) knocked in the game-winning goal in the 61st minute to lift No. 24 West Chester over host Slippery Rock, 1-0, inside Mihalik-Thompson Stadium on a rainy Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Ram's (11-3, 10-3 PSAC) defense limited Slippery Rock to only one shot in the first half to keep them off the board. Rock (8-5-1, 7-4-1 PSAC) started to even the game out in the second period, eventually out shooting WCU 9-6, but it was too late with time running down on the clock.
Senior
Sara Bennis' (Lancaster, Pa./Penn Manor) corner kick landed at the feet of
Taylor Jamison (Honeybrook, Pa./Twin Valley), who headed it toward the goal and was initially denied. However, sophomore forward
Julianne Minutillo (Hillsborough, N.J./Hillsboroug) was there for the loose ball and found Brown running in for a shot that landed in the left corner for the only score of the game.
Junior goalkeeper
Alex Srolis (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East) made two saves on six shots faced to preserve the ninth shutout win for West Chester with the help of a disciplined defensive unit in front.
West Chester will bring the momentum back home when they take on Lock Haven on Oct. 21 at 12 p.m. at Rockwell Field.
