Five Things to Know
- West Chester heads into the PSAC Semifinals for the third time in the last four seasons after battling to a scoreless draw with Seton Hill in the Quarterfinals on Wednesday before advancing past the Griffins by a 3-2 final on penalty kicks after Emma Suhoski (Mountain Top, Pa./Crestwood) buried the winning chance on her fifth and final attempt. Grace Keen (Lincoln University, Pa./Avon Grove) cemented her place in history on Tuesday as well, picking up her 36th career shutout, which sets new WCU and PSAC records.
- For an offense averaging over 2.5 goals per game (44 through 17 games), a two-game goal-scoring drought would appear notable, but West Chester has plenty of offensive firepower throughout its roster heading into the PSAC Semifinals on Friday. Kianna Barber (Browns Mills, N.J./BCIT) leads the team with seven goals and seven assists for 21 points, while Jordan Nguyen (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Central) ranks second with seven goals and two assists for 16 points. Adriana Ryder (Hamilton, N.J./Steinert) and Lauren Reimold (Chester Springs, Pa./Downingtown East) are third and fourth in scoring with five goals (four game-winners) and five assists for 15 points, along with four goals and two assists for 10 points, respectively. In goal, Keen improved to 13-2-2 on the year with a 0.32 goals-against average and eight shutouts, including her four-save shutout performance against Seton Hill on Tuesday.
- The Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) released its All-Conference selections on Wednesday morning after Quarterfinal action concluded on Tuesday night. West Chester and the Rock were both well represented, as the Golden Rams had five honorees: Lauren Reimold, Kianna Barber, Katie Dougherty, and Grace Keen earned First Team honors, while Adriana Ryder picked up a second team honor. The Rock was also well represented in Wednesday morning's release, as Libby Earley was named Defensive Player of the Year while Noreen Herlihey grabbed Coach of the Year honors, and the Rock landed seven players on the All-Conference team. Earley was one of five First Team selections as she was joined by Leah Allman, Bailey McGee, Sophia Palermo, and Peyton Los, while Lillian Snyder and Abby Peterline earned Second Team honors. Check out the full releases from both programs via the hyperlinks above.
- Slippery Rock enters play on Friday after a 2-0 victory over Millersville in the PSAC Quarterfinals on James Egli Field on Tuesday afternoon. The Rock jumped out to an early lead when Abby Paterline scored just under three minutes into the contest, and Lilia Battalini added a goal in the 37th minute to seal the 2-0 win. Paterline and Battalini are tied for the team lead in goal scoring with seven goals each, and Paterline leads the team in points with four assists for 18 points. Battalini has three assists for 17 points, while Bailey McGee has five goals and seven assists for 17 points.
- West Chester is 18-9-2 against Slippery Rock since 1994, including a 4-2 win at the Rock in November 2019 in the NCAA Tournament. This victory helped West Chester avoid a potential losing streak, as the Golden Rams fell to the Rock 1-0 in West Chester in their last meeting in 2018. West Chester has won four of the last five in the series against the Rock and has not lost in Slippery Rock since a 10- setback in October 2013.
With a Win
With a victory over the Rock, West Chester will advance back to the PSAC Championship game for the first time since 2023 to take on the winner of the Gannon/Kutztown semifinal, which is scheduled to be played at 10 a.m. on Friday.
