Men's Tennis Drops Heartbreaker To Philadelphia University, 5-4

Box Score

PHILADELPHIA, Pa.
- West Chester dropped its final two singles matches as Philadelphia University came from behind to top the Golden Rams, 5-4, in a non-league men's tennis match at the Legacy Youth Tennis Center Friday afternoon.

West Chester (1-2) opened the spring portion of its schedule with wins at first and second doubles by identical scores of 8-6. Third doubles dropped a nailbiter, 9-7, but the Rams still took a 2-1 edge into singles play. Wins at fourth and fifth singles by Tony Deimler (lititz, Pa./Warwick) and Lucas van der Heyde (Exton, Pa./Great Valley) put West Chester on the brink of a win. However, PhilaU captured second and third singles to pull within striking distance at 4-3.

PhilaU finished out the match with wins at first and sixth singles in a pair of three-set matches that could have gone either way.

Deimler and Jared Howatt (Exton, Pa./Henderson) teamed up at first singles for a win while Charlie Rushing (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) teamed with Lars Kristiansen (New Hope, Pa./New Hope-Solesbury) for a win at second doubles.

West Chester's men will be back in action next week when the Golden Rams travel to Tampa, Fla., for spring break.
