Men’s Tennis Tops STAC, 6-3

TAMPA, Fla. – Lucas von der Heyde picked up a win at fifth singles to clinch a 6-3 victory over Saint Thomas Aquinas College in a non-league men's tennis match competed at University of South Florida Sunday afternoon.
 
West Chester (2-2) evened its record while making up a match with STAC that was cancelled up north due to weather. Von der Heyde was a straight-set 6-2, 6-3 winner to give the match to the Golden Rams.
 
West Chester swept the doubles competition with wins of 8-3 and 8-1 at first and second doubles, respectively, followed by a 9-7 win at third doubles.
 
Tony Deimler registered a 6-0, 6-0 win at fourth singles to give the Rams a commanding 4-0 advantage, before STAC registered its first win at third singles. Von der Heyde's clincher was followed by a WCU win at sixth singles by Troy Donato, 8-1 in a tie-breaker format.
 
STAC won the first and second singles matches in three sets.
 
West Chester takes on Daemen College Monday.
