West Chester Sweeps Pair On Non-League Matches

NEW HAVEN, Conn. - West Chester prevailed in both of its matches on Saturday afternoon over Bloomfield and Southern Connecticut State, continuing its dominance in the 2015 season.
 
The Golden Rams (8-0) faced a tough opponent in Bloomfield (3-1), who was also unbeaten at 3-0 coming into Saturday's match. West Chester dropped the first set, snapping its 18-set winning streak. However, the Golden Rams bounced back by winning the next three sets to take the match, 3-1. The Golden Rams downed Bloomfield by scores of 23-25, 25-23, 25-18 and 25-22. With the win over Bloomfield, WCU head coach Kassie Bellaver won her 200th career match. She then guided West Chester to a three-set win over Southern Connecticut State, 25-13, 25-13 and 25-13.
 
Molly Grammer (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) and Allie Duffy (Carlisle, Pa./Carlisle) led West Chester's attack in the first match, providing 22 and 14 kills, respectively, while Jillian Grammer (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) facilitated 47 assists in the match.
 
Sam Agostini (Broomall, Pa./Cardinal O'Hara) led the Golden Rams' defense with three blocks, along with Nicki Yates (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh), who had 26 digs and provided two aces for the Golden Rams.
 
In the tail-end of the doubleheader, West Chester came out firing on all cylinders in the first set. With a hit percentage of .519 and 16 kills as a team, the Golden Rams dominated their opponent, taking the set 25-13. West Chester went on to sweep Southern Connecticut in straight sets.
 
Grammer again led the offense with 16 kills in the match with her younger sister dishing out 38 assists. Yates had an additional 21 digs in the second match, followed by Callie Krajcir (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) with seven, and Lyndsey Iacobelli (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) with six. As a team, the Golden Rams had a hit percentage of .410 for the match.
 
West Chester travels to Philadelphia University on Tuesday for a non-league match with the Rams at 7 p.m.
