Roberto Silva (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett) to a 1-0 defeat over the Bloomfield Bears inside the Wilmington Univ. Athletics Complex Saturday afternoon.

The game was the second of the season-opening tournament hosted by Wilmington University. West Chester split its two games, after losing to host Wilmington on Thursday afternoon.Â

The Golden Rams (1-1) grabbed their first win of the season, after clinging to a one-goal lead. Bloomfield (0-1-1) was unable to capitalize on eight corner kick opportunities and fell one shot short of WCU.

Silva's goal came with 11 minutes to go in the first half on his second shot, after sailing one high over the crossbar two minutes earlier. He accepted the cross-pass by teammate
Max Aarkwarh (Accra, Ghana/Phelps School [Pa.]) to make good on his second opportunity coming in off the bench.

Veteran goalkeeper
Matt Palmer (Bangor, Pa./Bangor) (1-1) played all 90 minutes for WCU, making eight saves total. Palmer has allowed only one goal in over 180 minutes between the posts.

West Chester comes back home for a week of practice before continuing on its four-game road trip as they make the hike to Erie Pa., for back-to-back games against Mercyhurst (Sept. 11) at 3:30 p.m. and Gannon (Sept. 12) at 7:30 p.m.
