No. 24 Golden Rams Rally To Remain Undefeated

Box Score 1 | Box Score 2

CLERMONT, Fla. - Entering the bottom of the sixth inning and trailing Ferris State 6-5, the No. 24 Golden Rams rallied and scored the game tying and eventual go-ahead run on a two-out, two-RBI single off the bat of freshman Sara Ercolani (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East). West Chester followed the 7-6 victory over Ferris State with a 13-0 (5 inn.) win versus Salem International to remain undefeated.

Only a day after recording two key saves, Katie Erb (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) dominated inside the circle and earned two wins to move to 3-0 on the season.

WCU (14-0) wasted little time in game one. Back-to-back RBI singles from Cat Hammer (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) and Laura Altenburger (Feasterville, Pa./Neshaminy) built an early 2-0 lead.

Ferris State answered with a run in the top half of the second inning. However, the Golden Rams responded with an Alyssa Herion (Avon Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) RBI double. Madison Kelly (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) would drive in Herion on a triple to right center.

Ferris State scored lone runs in the fourth and fifth innings and cut the WCU lead to 4-3. Again, WCU responded with a run in the bottom of the fifth on a passed ball.

Following a three-run Ferris State home run in the top half of the sixth and trailing 6-5, Erb was inserted into the game and recorded a strike out to end the inning.

With two outs in the bottom of the sixth and runners on second and third, Ercolani knocked in both runners on a single to center field. WCU would hold on for a 7-6 win against a Ferris State club that entered the game with a 10-2 record.

Hammer, Altenburger, and Sarah Walasavage (Minersville, Pa./Minersville) provided multi-hit games for the purple and gold.

In the nightcap, the Golden Rams had 10 different batters record a hit or more against Salem International. Hammer crushed her second home run in as many days and had four RBI's. Altenburger also added four RBI's.

Erb started game two and owned the circle allowing only three hits in four innings of work.

West Chester will play two more tomorrow versus Cedarville and Ashland. Games are scheduled for 9 a.m. and 11 a.m. starts.
