No. 15 Golden Rams Sweep Wilmington; Extend Win Streak to 13

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Freshman Heidi McCollester (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) drove in the game-winning run in a 3-2 game one victory, and West Chester combined for 15 hits in an 8-0 (5 inn.) mercy-rule win in game two against Wilmington University on Tuesday afternoon.
 
In game one, West Chester (33-3) took a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the second inning, scoring two unearned runs. However, Wilmington (16-14) was able to even the game at 2-2 with lone runs in the third and fourth inning.
 
Making her first start of her freshman season and the score still tied at 2-2, McCollester drove in pinch runner Lexi Trumbetti (Burlington Twp., N.J./Burlington Twp.) in the bottom of the fifth for the go-ahead and eventual game-winning run.
 
Brooke Harner (Chadds Ford, Pa./Kennett Square) picked up the game one win in relief of Amanda Houck (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley). Harner (14-0) allowed two hits and struck out two batters in 3.2 innings of scoreless relief.
 
Both Sarah Walasavage (Minersville, Pa./Minersville) and Laura Altenburger (Feasterville, Pa./Neshaminy) were 2-for-3 at the plate in game one.
 
Senior Katie Erb (Douglassville, Pa./Daniel Boone) threw her fourth complete game and second shutout in the 8-0 game two win. Erb (7-0) allowed four hits and struck out two batters.
 
Cat Hammer (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) blasted her seventh home run of the season in the first inning of game two. The sophomore owns a team leading slugging percentage of .629.
 
Madison Kelly (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall), Alyssa Herion (Avon Grove, Pa./Avon Grove), and Walasavage each had three hit games.
 
Both Sarah Ercolani (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) and Hammer were 2-for-3 in game two.
 
In her first games since being named PSAC Athlete of the Week, Walasavage went a combined 5-for-7 and swiped two bags. The junior outfielder is now a perfect 20-for-20 in the stolen base department.
 
With the two wins, No. 15 West Chester extends its current win streak to 13 games.
 
West Chester returns to the diamond on Thursday, April 7 for a non-conference doubleheader against Goldey-Beacom College. First pitch is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
