Women’s Volleyball Drops Marathon Match With IUP, 3-2

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Abbie Dischert (Wilmington, Del./Concord) and Karleigh Lutz (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) each registered 16 kills, but host West Chester dropped a five-set match to visiting Indiana (Pa.), 3-2, inside Hollinger Field House Friday night.
 
West Chester (11-4, 0-3 PSAC) is still in search of its first conference win, despite battling back from a 2-1 deficit in sets to force a fifth and deciding set that went past the required 15 points to win. IUP improved to 12-2 overall and 3-0 in the conference with its 20-25, 25-15, 25-15, 8-25, 19-17 victory.
 
The visiting Crimson Hawks jumped out to a 4-1 lead in the deciding set. However, the Golden Rams rallied back once again to take a 6-4 lead. From there, the two PSAC schools went back and forth with 14 lead changes and 13 ties. Consecutive kills from IUP's Lindsay Moeller and Natalie Cignetti finally ended the two-hour match with the Hawks coming out on top.
 
Sophomore Libero Nicki Yates (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) posted a team-best 23 digs, moving past the 1,000-dig mark in her short college career. Jillian Grammer (Center Valley, Pa./Southern Lehigh) dished out 44 assists. West Chester put five players in double figures in digs, including Grammer, who posted a double-double with 12 digs. The Golden Rams had 94 digs in the five-set match.
 
Victoria Cruciani (Phoenixville, Pa./Pope John Paul II) had four blocks.
 
West Chester hosts both Clarion and Goldey-Beacom Saturday afternoon at Hollinger Field House. The Golden Rams and Golden Eagles will battle at 1 p.m. with the match against the Lightning to follow at 4 p.m.
