Hatch’s Hat Trick Leads West Chester past Mercyhurst on Senior Day

WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Jr., M Kaitlin Hatch (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) tallied a hat trick as well as an assist to lead West Chester (10-6, 4-4 PSAC) past visiting Mercyhurst (6-9, 2-6 PSAC) this afternoon, 7-0, inside Vonnie Gros Field.

How it Happened
  • Sr., F Rachal Toppi (Glassboro, N.J./Glassboro) started senior day on a positive note, converting a penalty stroke at the 7:55 mark. Toppi scored the first and last goal of the match to give her 12 goals on the season.
  • Jr., F Emily Evans (Newark, De. / St. Mark's) notched her first goal of the season at 15:33. Credited with the assist was Hatch, who then decided to get into the scoring column.
  • Hatch scored her first goal off a breakaway, sprinting from midfield and blasting a shot past the Mercyhurst goalkeeper.
  • Nine minutes later, Hatch was at it again with teammate Caitlin Kelly (Coatesville, Pa. / Bishop Shanahan) registering the assist. The Golden Rams took a 4-0 advantage into the half.
  • So., F Katie Thompson (Washington, N.J. / Warren Hills) added her fifth of the season at 44:30. She tacked on a pair of assists to finish the match with a goal and two assists. One of which occurred a minute after her goal to help Hatch complete the hat trick on a penalty corner.
  • Sr., M Mackenzie Mlkvy (Berlin, N.J. / Eastern) contributed on senior day as well, earning an assist in addition to Thompson for Hatch's third goal. The junior leads the squad with 15 goals this season.

Inside the Numbers
  • West Chester led in shots (28-4) and shots on goal (16-2).
  • Mercyhurst's Victoria Triaga made nine saves in the match, but allowed the seven goals.
  • Both goalkeepers for the Golden Rams saw action this afternoon with Marissa Elizardo (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) picking up the victory in 54:54 minutes.
  • Teammate Katie Dowling (Yorktown, Va. / Tabb) relieved Elizardo, finishing out the final 15:06. Each made a save in the victory.
  • The Golden Rams held an advantage in penalty corners as well at 11-3.
