CHEYNEY, Pa. - Sr., WR Tyler Karpinski (Lancaster, Pa./Manheim Twp.) caught eight passes for 173 yards and one touchdown while the defense held the hosts to 111 total yards and eight first downs as visiting West Chester defeated Cheyney by a score of 55-6 at O'Shields-Stevenson Stadium Saturday afternoon.

West Chester (6-2, 4-1 PSAC East) remains in a tie for first place with Kutztown and Shippensburg while Cheyney (1-7, 0-5) dropped its seventh straight contest.

Jarel Elder (Allentown, Pa./Parkland) rushed for two TDs and put up 106 all-purpose yards in the win. Mark Dukes (Pottstown, Pa./Pottsgrove) rushed for 83 yards on eight carries and scored one TD as well. Paul Dooley (Philadelphia, Pa./Springside-Chestnut Hill) finished the day 13-for-23 for 268 yards and a pair of touchdowns. He also threw a pair of interceptions.

The Golden Rams' defense sacked Cheyney's quarterback five times Saturday and recorded a total of 14 tackles for a loss in the win. George Shipp (Harleysville, Pa./North Penn) led the way with six tackles, one sack and 1.5 tackles for a loss. Josh Ganzelli (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown West) had four tackles, one sack and 2.5 tackles for a loss.

West Chester's defense pitched a shutout until 41 seconds remained in the third quarter when Cheyney finally broke through on a 35-yard pass from Dominick Trautz to Brandon Joyner that made it a 48-6 game, after the extra point was blocked.

True freshman WR Jalik Smith (Harrisburg, Pa./Susquehanna Twp.) and R-Fr., RB Nafeese Nasir (Conshohocken, Pa./Plymouth-Whitemarsh) each registered their first career touchdowns in the win as well.

West Chester returns home next Saturday for Homecoming Weekend to take on East Stroudsburg at 2 p.m. It is Gold Rush Saturday. Fans are encouraged to wear gold T-shirts to the game.
