INDIANA, Pa. - West Chester University continues its quest for a national championship Saturday as the Golden Rams take on Indiana (Pa.) in the second round of the NCAA II Playoffs at George P. Miller Stadium. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m.
The Golden Rams advanced to the second round of the NCAA II Playoffs with a 27-6 victory over Shippensburg in the pouring rain last Saturday at Seth Grove Stadium. West Chester is the five-seed in Super Region 1 while IUP stands as the No. 1 seed in the region and received a bye into the second round. The other Super Region 1 semifinal pits seventh-seeded Findlay (Ohio) against second-seeded Assumption (Mass.) on Saturday. The winners will meet next weekend in the regional final. A West Chester win, coupled with a Findlay victory, would give West Chester the right to host that regional final as the highest remaining seed.
Saturday's matchup is also a rematch of the PSAC Championship Game played two weeks ago at John A. Farrell Stadium. Indiana (Pa.) downed West Chester, 24-7, to claim the conference title. IUP QB Lenny Williams was named the game's most valuable player.
Saturday's game marks the third time in the last five years that West Chester has ventured into the second round of the NCAA II Playoffs and the sixth time overall that the Golden Rams have advanced this far. WCU is 2-3 in its previous five appearances. West Chester is 1-3 in second-round games played on the road.
