Women's Basketball Falls At Bloomsburg, 81-68

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. – West Chester women's basketball dropped an 81-68 PSAC East contest to host Bloomsburg inside Nelson Fieldhouse Wednesday night.
 
West Chester (9-11, 9-7 PSAC) have now dropped two of its last three contests overall and three straight on the road. Bloomsburg (7-13, 6-10) evened the regular-season series with the Golden Rams. With the loss, West Chester fell into a tie for second place with East Stroudsburg, three games behind division-leading Shippensburg and two up on fourth-place Millersville.
 
The Golden Rams had closed to within a bucket with six minutes remaining in the game. However, the Huskies were able to close out the game on an 18-7 run that sealed WCU's fate. In fact, West Chester made a pair of runs at the hosts in the second half. But, Bloomsburg answered each time. An 8-0 run by the Golden Rams was answered with an 8-0 run by the Huskies. Then, a 7-1 spurt from the visitors was met with a 10-2 rebuttal from Bloomsburg.
 
Porscha Speller (Lancaster, Pa./Lancaster Catholic) scored a team-best 18 points, adding seven rebounds and five assists to go along with three steals. Tori Smick (Pilesgrove, N.J./Woodstown) posted 14 points and grabbed nine boards.
 
Alexis Anderson (Allentown, Pa./Louis E. Dieruff) scored 13 points and dished out three assists with three steals as well. Jenna Widdicombe (Pottstown, Pa./Pope John Paul II) posted 11 points off the bench in the loss.
 
Bloomsburg's Alyssa Mack led all scorers with 20 points off the bench.
 
West Chester is off for one week, before traveling to Cheyney next Wednesday. Game time for the women is 7:30 p.m., following the men's game.
