MILLERSVILLE, Pa. – West Chester University's men's tennis team broke an eight-match losing streak by defeating Millersville University Thursday afternoon, 8-1.
The Golden Rams (2-13, 1-5 PSAC) earned their first win against a PSAC East opponent while also breaking the losing streak since its win against non-league St. Michael's College in Florida on the 15th of March.
West Chester swept all three of the doubles match as well as taking five out of the six singles matches. At the helm of the doubles, junior Charlie Rushing (Yardley, Pa./Pennsbury) paired with Aidan Henken (Harrisburg, Pa./Central Dauphin) to take the 8-6 win. Throughout the second match, Kylil Curry (Coatesville, Pa./Coatesville) teamed up with Keanu Travelino (Kailua Kona, HI/West Hawaii Explorations Academy) to defeat their opponent 8-3. Senior pairs Lucas Von der Heyde (Exton, Pa./Great Valley) and Cameron Moore (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg Area) would team up during the third singles to take an 8-0 victory
Throughout the singles, Rushing would open the first match with a 6-0, 6-2 win while Von der Heyde would control the second match with a 6-2, 6-1 victory. Travelino would also control his third singles with a 6-1, 6-1 win. Moore earned a 6-3, 6-1 victory in two set throughout the fifth singles. Curry would be the deciding factor by clinching the match in the six singles, 6-1, 6-1.
West Chester will close out the regular season it host Bloomfield College in a non-league match up on Monday at 3p.m.
