WEST CHESTER, Pa.- On a beautiful fall afternoon, the No. 9 West Chester University women's soccer team (1-0, 1-0 PSAC) defeated visiting Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) rival No. 19 East Stroudsburg (0-1, 0-1 PSAC), 1-0, inside Rockwell Field.
In the first half, both teams possessed the ball well but the Golden Rams would break through first with 20 minutes left in the half thanks to a flying header from junior
Julia Kirkpatrick(
Brick, NJ/Brick Twp.).
She scored off a cross from outside the box from senior
Kaitlyn McNamara (West Nyack, Albertus Magnus) to give the Golden Rams a 1-0 advantage. The final twenty minutes would remain scoreless allowing the Golden Rams to carry an one goal advantage into the half.
In the second half, it was more of the same as the West Chester defense stood tall in front of sophomore goalie
Brook Myers (
Middletown, Pa./Middletown) who only had to make three saves on the night in order to earn the victory. Senior Jules Harris worked hard for the Warriors making four saves on the day, however, it would not be enough to earn the victory in the season opener.
The Golden Rams will take to the road on Saturday when they travel to take on PSAC opponent Seton Hill in a 1 p.m. start.
