WEST CHESTER, Pa. – Abbie Dischert (Wilmington, Del./Concord) posted 12 kills while
Karleigh Lutz (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) added nine, but it was not enough against visiting California (Pa.) in a 3-1 PSAC women's volleyball setback inside Sturzebecker Health Science Center Friday night.
Â
West Chester (10-2, 0-1 PSAC) dropped the first two sets, but rallied to win the third against Cal (7-5, 1-0). Then, opened up a 17-12 advantage in the fourth set just to see the Vulcans storm back with a 13-5 run and clinch the match by scores of 25-21, 25-16, 18-25, 25-22.
Â
The Golden Rams used an 11-3 run early on in the third set to wrench the momentum from the visiting Vulcans and extend the match with its 25-18 win. The fourth set started out like it was deemed to go five sets. But, Cal regained its edge with the decisive run to close out the match.
Â
Cal hit over .300 in the first two sets to jump out to its insurmountable lead. However, the Vulcans hit just .065 in the third to slip. Cal held a decided advantage in blocks at 12-3 which was partly the reason for West Chester's .161 hitting percentage for the match.
Â
Dischert added 16 digs for a double-double in the loss.
Nicki Yates (Coopersburg, Pa./Southern Lehigh) notched 23 digs. Jillian Grammer dished out 40 assists.
