Golden Rams Edge Bloomsburg 2-1

WEST CHESTER, Pa. - The West Chester University women's soccer team (5-1-1, 5-1-0 PSAC) welcomed the Bloomsburg University Huskies (6-2-1, 5-2-1 PSAC) to Rockwell field for a crucial PSAC matchup. West Chester won by a final score of, 2-1.

How it Happened:
  • Bloomsburg broke through first just 10 minutes into the game when Jessica Supp took a pass from Hannah Miller and chipped it over the goalie into the lower right corner to give the Huskies an early 1-0 lead.
  • West Chester answered 20 minutes later when Carmen Telesco (Jamison, Pa./Central Bucks West) ripped a shot from the right side of the box off an assist from Linzi Wolfe(Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown) to even the score at 1-1 heading to the half.
  • West Chester added the game-winner in the 59th minute when Shannon Cooley (Frederick, Md./Urbana) knocked in a deflection in front, after a diving save from Bloomsburg's Jenna Hawkins to stop a rocket from Nikki Caffey (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South) just seconds earlier.
  • Brooke Myers (Middletown, Pa./Middletown) worked hard in goal once again, surrendering just one goal early in the contest before shutting the Huskies down the rest of the way and recording two saves in the victory.

Inside the Numbers:
  • West Chester outshot Bloomsburg by an 8-4 margin, including a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal.
  • West Chester also held a narrow 7-6 advantage in corner kicks.
  • Telesco and Cooley both recorded their first goals of the season.
  • The Golden Rams have scored nine goals so far this season and they have come from nine different players.

Head Coach Betty Ann Kempf Townsley on nine different goal scorers, "Anybody on any given day can contribute. We have so many players, who can play so many different ways, and that is a big strength of our team. Our depth was great today as it really helped us to battle through the heat to earn the victory. Overall, I am really proud of the team as they showed a lot of character in the come from behind victory."

The Golden Rams return to the pitch on Wednesday when they travel to Kutztown in a huge PSAC matchup slated to get underway at 3 p.m.
