WEST CHESTER, Pa.-Looking to make it 10 in a row West Chester (15-4, 12-3 PSAC) welcomed Bloomsburg (6-15, 3-12 PSAC) to Hollinger Field House for an important PSAC East Showdown. Â West Chester ultimately prevailed in this contest winning by a final score of 78-60.
This contest featured a Golden Rams squad that leads the PSAC in scoring averaging 81.3 points per contest so far this season. West Chester trailed for just 24 seconds in this decisive victory over the Huskies.
With just under three minutes to play in the first quarter Bloomsburg gained the narrow 12-11 lead but a barrage of three pointers from the Golden Rams allowed West Chester to quickly regain a lead that they would never relinquish. At the end of the first quarter of play West Chester held a 23-14 lead following a 12-2 run close to the quarter.
Camden Boehner (Gettysburg, Pa./Gettysburg) had a huge first quarter as she scored 11 points including six in the final 1:05. Â
In the second quarter Bloomsburg showed signs of life early as they opened the quarter on a 7-4 run but West Chester answered right back with a big 13-6 run of their own to extend their lead to 45-29 at the end of the first half of play.
In the third quarter of play West Chester came out firing on all cylinders as they went on a quick 5-0 run in the first 30 seconds of play to force Bloomsburg to take an early timeout. Â Things did not change much from here as West Chester continued to shoot well and stymie the Huskies which allowed the Golden Rams to hold a commanding 66-42 lead at the end of the third quarter of play.
West Chester was on cruise control in the fourth thanks to the large lead they had already built and they would ride this lead to a 78-60 victory over Bloomsburg.
Boehner had a huge day as she scored 24 points and added two steals and four assists en route to the victory.
Mia Hopkins (Pittston, Pa./Pittston) also played well against her old team as she registered yet another double double with 18 points and 11 rebounds in the victory. Â
Lexi Bruno (Millville, N.J./Millville) also played well coming away with four steals, five rebounds, and nine points.
As a team West Chester shot 28-59 (47.5 %) from the field and 9-22 (40.9%) from three-point range. The Golden Rams also went 13-17 (76.5 %) from the charity stripe in this victory. On the defensive side of the ball West Chester managed to hold Bloomsburg to just 41.3 percent from the field including 12.5 percent from three-point range. The Golden Rams also scored 28 points off 21 turnovers.
Taylor Montana was the leading scorer for Bloomsburg as she scored 17 points and also pulled down eight rebounds in the contest.
West Chester ten game winning streak is the second longest of Coach Kiera Woodens tenure with her longest coming back in the 2015-2016 season when West Chester won 11 in a row.
West Chester is back in action on Wednesday night when they host Millersville beginning at 5:30.
