Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Rolls Past Lock Haven, 3-0

WEST CHESTER, Pa.-On the heels of a thrilling, late-game victory over Gannon the West Chester University men's soccer team (9-2-2, 6-1-1 PSAC) was back in action on a crisp Sunday afternoon at home against Lock Haven (5-7-2, 3-5-1 PSAC). West Chester utilized an explosive second half to come away with the 3-0 victory over its guests on Sunday afternoon.

How it Happened:

  • Each team had its chances in the first half as shots ended the first even at 6-6 although Lock Haven had a slight 2-1 edge in shots on goal. West Chester did manage to end the half with a 6-3 advantage on corner kicks.
  • West Chester finally broke through in the 67th minute when Kyle Hoops (Phoenixville, Pa./Great Valley) buried a penalty kick after a handball was called in the box to give the Golden Rams the 1-0 lead. This lead grew moments later when Jason Pixley (Philadelphia, Pa./Central) finished a deflection off a shot from Colin Muller (Bethlehem, Pa./Freedom) to extend the lead to 2-0.
  • West Chester added one more goal in the 85th minute when freshman Kendall Walkes (West Chester, Pa./Henderson) scored off a pass across the box from Eric Greer (Chadds Ford, Pa.) to give the Golden Rams a commanding 3-0 lead. 
Inside the Numbers:
  • West Chester ended the game out shooting its guests by a 16-10 margin, although Lock Haven did hold a slight 6-5 advantage in shots on goal. West Chester also ended the game with a wide 9-6 advantage in corner kicks.
  • Will Marshall (North Versailles, Pa./East Allegheny) worked hard in goal throughout the afternoon making six big saves to outduel his Lock Haven counterpart Jason Keller who made two saves of his own in the loss.

West Chester will be back in action on Wednesday evening at Shippensburg with that game getting underway at 3:30 p.m.
