Top-Ranked West Chester Blanks No. 9 Bloomsburg, 4-0


WEST CHESTER, Pa. – No. 1 West Chester scored four second-half goals en route to a 4-0 shutout over No. 9 Bloomsburg Wednesday afternoon at Vonnie Gros Field.
 
West Chester (10-1, 5-0 PSAC) upped its winning streak to 10 straight with the conference victory over Bloomsburg (7-4, 1-3). Katie Thompson (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills) scored a pair of goals, and Emily Evans (Newark, Del./St. Mark's) added a pair of assists. The win keeps the Golden Rams on pace with East Stroudsburg for first place in the conference standings. Both the Rams and the Warriors are 4-0 in conference play following Wednesday's action.
 
How it Happened
  • Katie Thompson opened the scoring with a goal in the 38th minute. She finished off a nice feed from Marre Corver (Aarlanderveen, Netherlands) with a sweep shot from about six feet out.
  • Five minutes later, Kelsey Munster (Lancaster, Pa./Hempfield) slammed home a rebound off a shot from Caitlin Kelly (Coatesville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) to double the home team's lead.
  • Kaitlin Hatch (Sewell, N.J./Washington Twp.) scored her ninth goal of the season in the 55th minute off an assist from Evans.
  • Thompson scored her second of the game and team-leading 10th of the year with six minutes to play off another assist from Evans.

  • Bloomsburg was held to just three shots in the contest.
  • WCU goalkeeper Marissa Elizardo (North Wales, Pa./North Penn) notched her 10th win on the year and fifth by shutout, while being called upon to make just one save.
  • West Chester held a 7-2 advantage in penalty corners and an 18-3 advantage in shots.
