WEST CHESTER, Pa.- The West Chester University women's soccer team (10-4-1, 9-4-1 PSAC) was back in action against Slippery Rock (11-4-2, 9-4-2 PSAC) with major playoff implications. West Chester fell by a final score of 1-0.
Prior to the game West Chester honored its eight seniors- Nikki Zaso (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East), Julia Kirkpatrick (Brick, N.J./Brick Township), Shannon Cooley (Frederick, Md./Urbana), Hannah Grandell (West Chester, Pa./Unionville), Nikki Caffey (Holland, Pa./Council Rock South), Kaitlyn McFadden (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan), Carmen Telesco (Jamison, Pa./Central Bucks West) and Linzi Wolfe (Quakertown, Pa./Quakertown).
How it Happened:
- In the first half, each side had its chances as West Chester and Slippery Rock both took eight shots although Slippery Rock did take five shots on goal while West Chester took three. Slippery Rock also ended the half with a 4-2 advantage in corner kicks.
- For just the second time all-season a team not named West Chester netted the first goal of the game as Brooke Testa used an assist from Rachel Edge in the 56th minute to give Slippery Rock the slim one-goal advantage.
- West Chester applied pressure for the remainder of the game but the Golden Rams were unable to crack the Slippery Rock defense before time expired, thus, allowing Slippery Rock to pick up a crucial PSAC and Regional victory.
Inside the Box Score:
- West Chester ended the game out shooting its guests 15-11 in terms of total shots although Slippery Rock did hold a 7-4 advantage in shots on goal. West Chester out cornered its guests 4-0 in the second half to end the game with a 6-4 edge in corner kicks.
- McKenna Mullin (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) worked hard in goal making six big saves to try and keep Slippery Rock off the scoreboard in the loss. Mullin's counterpart Kylie Downs played very well in goal for Slippery Rock making four big saves to slow down a normally dangerous West Chester offense.
- This afternoon's shutout loss is just the second time all season that West Chester has been shutout with the only other shutout coming in the Golden Rams 1-0 loss to Bloomsburg earlier this season.
- This afternoon's loss is also the Golden Rams first home loss of the season as West Chester falls to 6-1-0 at home in 2018.
