Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Baxter's Career Day Leads West Chester Past Mansfield

WEST CHESTER, Pa.-The West Chester University women's soccer team (11-4-1, 10-4-1 PSAC) entered play looking to get back on track against Mansfield (1-13, 1-13 PSAC). West Chester did just that winning by a final score of 4-0 thanks in large part to a career day from Madison Baxter (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) who played a role in all four West Chester goals.

How it Happened:

  • Just three minutes into the contest Baxter opened the scoring off an assist from Jenny Bail (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) to take an early 1-0 lead.
  • In the 13th minute, West Chester scored again when Hannah Grandell (West Chester, Pa./Unionville) took an assist from Baxter to extend the lead to 2-0.
  • In the 28th minute, the lead grew one more time when Hannah Zach (Bucks County, Pa./Central Bucks East) took an assist from Baxter to make the score 3-0 heading to the half.
  • In the second half, Baxter scored her second goal of the day after Jenna Peters (Fairless Hills, Pa./Pennsbury) hit a rocket off the crossbar to give West Chester a commanding 4-0 lead.
Inside the Numbers:
  • West Chester ended the game with a commanding 28-2 advantage in shots including a 12-0 advantage in shots on goal. West Chester also ended the contest with an 11-2 advantage in corner kicks.
  • McKenna Mullin (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) and Brooke Myers (Middletown, Pa./Middletown Area) split time in goal although neither goalie had to make a save in the victory while their counterpart Stephanie Moir made eight saves to try and keep Mansfield in the game throughout.
  • Baxter's six points today is double her career-point total entering the 2018 season setting a new single-game career high.

Notes:
West Chester clinched a spot in the PSAC Postseason yesterday afternoon, thus, keeping head coach Betty Ann Kempf Townsley's PSAC Tournament appearance streak alive as the Golden Rams have never missed the PSAC Tournament under Kempf Townsley.
