INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - West Chester University's football squad was ranked sixth in the inaugural NCAA Super Region 1 poll released Monday afternoon.
West Chester (7-0) is ranked 12th nationally by the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) in its latest poll released Monday morning. However, it is the NCAA regional rankings that determine the seven teams that will qualify for the NCAA II Playoffs at the end of the regular season. The Golden Rams are one of three PSAC squads to appear in the initial rankings. Kutztown came in at No. 2 while Slippery Rock landed at No. 9. Ten teams are ranked while only seven of those will make the tournament.
West Chester squares off with Kutztown this Saturday afternoon at Andre Reed Stadium in Kutztown, Pa. The game will most likely decide the PSAC Eastern Division champion and with it the East's participant in the State Game on the final weekend of the regular season.
Monday's ranking is the first of three, before the Super Region 1 committee picks the field of seven. There will be two more regular-season rankings on Oct. 29 and Nov. 5, before the field is announced on Sunday, Nov. 11.
