Second Half Surge Propels West Chester past Millersville

MILLERSVILLE, Pa.- The West Chester University men's soccer team (6-2-2, 3-1-1 PSAC) was back in action on Wednesday night at PSAC rival Millersville (4-3-4, 2-2-1 PSAC). West Chester used a great second half effort scoring twice in the final 15 minutes of regulation to pick up the crucial 2-1 road victory.

How it Happened:
  • Millersville opened the scoring in the 27th minute, which allowed the Marauders to take a 1-0 lead to the halftime break.
  • Colin Muller (Bethlehem, Pa./Liberty) netted the equalizer in the 78th minute off an assist from Brett Miller (Washington Crossing, Pa./Council Rock North) to lock the score at 1-1 with just over 11 minutes to play.
  • Doug Goitia (Mount Pocono, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) continued his red-hot streak of play as of late in the 90th minute when he recorded his sixth goal of the season, which was also the game-winner lifting West Chester to a pivotal 2-1 victory over its rival.
Inside the Numbers:
  • At the end of the match, Millersville held a slight 6-5 advantage in total shots although shots on goal were even at three shots for each side.
  • Millersville did hold a 3-0 advantage in corner kicks.

  • Will Marshall (North Versailles, Pa./East Allegheny) worked hard between the pipes making two clutch saves to slow down the Millersville offense.
