Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

West Chester Cruises to 4-0 Win over California

WEST CHESTER, Pa.- Looking to run its winning streak to three games the West Chester University men's soccer team (7-2-2, 4-1-1 PSAC) returned home on Saturday afternoon for a matchup against PSAC opponent Cal (Pa.) (1-6-3, 0-6-0 PSAC). West Chester cruised to victory in this contest winning by a final score of 4-0.

How it Happened:

  • West Chester opened the scoring early breaking through in the seventh minute when Nicholas Meola (Avondale, Pa./Kennett) played a long ball into Stephen Thompson (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) who then beat the keeper to give West Chester the early 1-0 lead.
  • Just one minute later West Chester grew its lead as Brett Miller (Washington Crossing, Pa./Council Rock North) took a pass from Doug Goitia (Mount Pocono, Pa./Pocono Mountain East) to increase the lead to 2-0. 
  • In the second half, it was more of the same as Goitia registered another assist this time to Nick Jachwak (Souderton, Pa./Souderton Area) to make the lead 3-0 in favor of West Chester.
  • Daniel Grdinrod (Feasterville, Pa./Neshaminy) also broke through in the 70th minute off an assist from Thompson and Austin Eveland (Kennett Square, Pa./Kennett), which extended the lead to 4-0.

Inside the Numbers:

  • West Chester ended the game with a huge 19-6 advantage in shots and a 8-2 advantage in shots on goal. West Chester also held a 4-0 advantage in corner kicks. 
  • Will Marshall (North Versailles, Pa./East Allegheny) played well between the pipes making a pair of big saves in the victory.
  • West Chester has outscored its opponents by a 10-2 margin over the course of its three-game winning streak. 

Up Next:

West Chester will be back in action next Friday afternoon at Gannon with that game getting underway at 3:30 p.m. before returning home to face Lock Haven on Sunday afternoon also at 3:30 p.m.
