MILLERSVILLE, Pa.-The No. 7 West Chester University women's soccer team (7-2-1, 6-2-1 PSAC) took to the road on Wednesday evening for a contest against No. 22 Millersville (9-2, 8-2 PSAC). Millersville utilized its home field advantage to the fullest to pull off the 4-1 upset over West Chester.
How it Happened:
- West Chester struck first scoring in the 15th minute, when Olivia Muha (Pittsburgh, Pa./Montour) took a cross from Madison Baxter (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) that went over the defender's head and blasted it into the back of the net to put West Chester out in front 1-0.
- This lead was short-lived as Millersville found the back of the net in the 22nd minute to even the score at 1-1.
- In the 33rd minute, West Chester thought it had scored the go-ahead goal once again when Kendall Rich (West Long Branch, N.J./Shore Regional) finished a ball that was knocked around in the box but an offsides call negated this goal.
- Millersville used this momentum to score just one minute later when Kay Liebl took an assist from Delaney Meadows who had scored the Marauders first goal of the day to put Millersville ahead 2-1 heading to the half.
- Liebl broke through again for Millersville in the 51st minute, which made the lead 3-1.
- In the 73rd minute, Liebl completed the hat trick extending the West Chester deficit to 4-1.
Inside the Numbers:
- Shots were relatively close throughout, but Millersville ended the game with a 14-10 edge in shots and an 8-5 advantage in shots on goal. West Chester did manage to hold a 3-1 advantage in corner kicks in the loss.
- This afternoon's loss drops West Chester to 0-2-1 on the season when its opponent scores a goal in the contest.
- This is the time West Chester has lost to Millersville since October of 2013 when the Golden Rams fell to the Marauders by a final score of 1-0 .
