WEST CHESTER, Pa.-In need of a win to punch its ticket to the PSAC Women's Soccer semifinals for the third straight year the No. 4 seed West Chester University women's soccer team (13-4-1) hosted No. 5 seed Lock Haven (11-5-1) on Tuesday afternoon. West Chester defeated Lock Haven for the second time this season by the same final score as the first meeting winning by a final of 2-0.
How it Happened:
- In the 40th minute, Madison Baxter (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) scored her fifth goal in the last three games on a free kick to give West Chester the early 1-0 lead.
- In the 54th minute, Nikki Zaso (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill East) extended the lead after following a shot off the crossbar that Lock Haven goalkeeper Bree Hilty mishandled to give West Chester the 2-0 lead that the Golden Rams would never relinquish.
Inside the Numbers:
- Lock Haven ended the contest with slim one shot advantages in both total shots at 11-10 and shots on goal at 6-5. West Chester did manage to end the game with a 3-2 edge in corner kicks.
- McKenna Mullin (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) played well all afternoon making six big saves to keep Lock Haven and the conferences leading scorer Marah Foltz off the scoreboard. Mullin's counterpart Hilty made three saves of her own to slow down the West Chester offense but it was not enough in the loss.
- With her goal this afternoon, Baxter extended her team lead in goals and points with nine goals including five over her past three games for a total of 23 points on the year.
