MYRTLE BEACH, S.C.-After collecting the first win of the year just moments before the first pitch of this contest West Chester (2-2) kept the momentum going and defeated Felician 4-2.
In the top half of the first
Alyssa Herion (Avon Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) wasted little time in giving the Golden Rams a lead as she laced a double into left field to plate
Bri Garber (Willow Street, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) and
Madison Kelly (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) giving West Chester an early 2-0 lead. In the bottom of the first Felician got one back thanks to a solo homerun making the score 2-1 after one.
In the second,
Cat Hammer (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) continued her big day with a ringing double to center bringing home the third run of the game to make the score 3-1. A Felician error then allowed pinch runner
Ali LaRosa (West Chester, Pa./Rustin) to scamper home which extended the lead to 4-1 giving West Chester a valuable insurance run.
Felician was able to add one more run before the end of the game but it was not enough to defeat West Chester as the Golden Rams went on to win by a final score of 4-2.
Amanda Houck (Gap, Pa./Pequea Valley) took the ball for the third time over the past two days and registered her first win of the season as she scattered six hits over the course of her seven innings of work. Ashley Owens took the ball for Felician and also went seven innings while surrendering four runs in the loss.
West Chester will be back in action tomorrow afternoon when they play a single game against West Virginia State beginning at 12 p.m.
