MURFREESBORO, N.C. – The West Chester University softball team continued its busy Sunday morning when against USciences in its third game of the Hawks Softball Classic. West Chester went on to win by a final score of 6-2.
West Chester broke through early on as
Madison Kelly (Whitehall, Pa./Whitehall) scored via an RBI single off the bat of
Cat Hammer (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) to give West Chester a 1-0 lead after the top of the first.
Bri Garber (Willow Street, Pa./Lampter-Strasburg) drove Kelly in thanks to a perfectly placed bunt and a fielding miscue to make the score 2-0. Hammer then came through with a single which scored Garber making the score 3-0. Garber was not done there as she drove
Ali LaRosa (West Chester, Pa./Rustin) in during the top of the fourth to give West Chester a commanding 4-0 lead.
Sciences managed to break through for one run in the fourth and another in the fifth to make the score 4-2 after five innings of play. In the seventh, West Chester answered back with another two-run thanks to an RBI off the bat of
Alyssa Herion (Avon Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) that scored Garber. Herion came around to score two batters later when
Sara Ercolani (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) singled through the left side to make the score 6-2.
Kelly Tinsman (Ewing, N.J./Notre Dame) (1-0) got the start in the circle and she went all seven-innings surrendering just the two runs while striking out three to earn the victory.
