CLERMONT, Fla. – The West Chester University softball team (7-5) continued its Spring Break trip to Florida on Saturday afternoon against Grand Valley State (12-5). Grand Valley State got the bats going early and often to win by a final score of 11-1 in five innings.
Grand Valley State posted four runs in the first inning, three in the second and another four during the third.
Alyssa Herion (Avon Grove, Pa./Avon Grove) provided the only offense of the afternoon for West Chester with a solo home run to center in the top of the fourth.
Maegen Kavangh (Easton, Pa./Easton) (2-3) got the start for West Chester, and she lasted just one inning, surrendering four runs on six hits with one walk.
Kelly Tinsman (Ewing, N.J./Notre Dame) was the next option out of the pen, and she lasted an inning and two thirds while surrendering seven runs on eight hits. She also walked two batters.Â
Jen Hanshaw (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) entered in relief of Tinsman and went an inning and a third, surrendering no runs and no hits while striking out three.
Allie Grys got the start for Grand Valley State and she went the distance, scattering just six hits over five innings of work while allowing one run and striking out five.
West Chester is back in action later this afternoon against Lewis beginning at 3:30 p.m.
