CLERMONT, Fla. – The West Chester University softball team (14-6) was back in action on Friday morning in its final day of competition at the PFX Games in Clermont, Florida. West Chester saw its winning streak come to an end losing 4-3 to IUP.
IUP broke through first scoring runs in the third, and fourth innings to take a 2-0 lead halfway through the contest.
West Chester roared back in the bottom of the fifth, scoring three runs thanks to two RBI singles from #
Bri Garber# (Willow Street, Pa./Lampeter-Strasburg) and
Cat Hammer (Philadelphia, Pa./Archbishop Ryan) as well a sac fly RBI off the bat of
Sara Ercolani (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East). This offensive outburst gave West Chester a 3-2 lead heading into the sixth.
IUP struck back in the top of the seventh, with a two-run homer to take a 4-3 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh.
West Chester threatened in the home half of the seventh inning, but the Golden Rams were unable to score, thus, dropping the game by a score of 4-3.
Maegen Kavanagh (Easton, Pa./Easton) (2-4) was charged with the loss after going the distance surrendering just five hits and two earned runs (four overall) while striking out three.
West Chester is back in action later this morning against Southern New Hampshire.
