EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa. - The West Chester University women's tennis team opened up Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play on Tuesday afternoon, as the squad traveled to the Wolbers Courts to square off against conference foe East Stroudsburg.
The Golden Rams (3-7) swept doubles action in a convincing manner on Tuesday, before claiming five of the six singles matches against the host Warriors to give West Chester the 8-1 victory on the road. Tuesday's win snaps a seven-match losing streak for WCU this season and brings the Golden Rams to an impressive 18-0 against PSAC Eastern Division opponents dating back to the 2014 season.
The duo of
Rylee Power (Newtown Square, Pa / Marple Newtown) and
Shannon Nixon (Wyncote, Pa. / Cheltenham) took first flight doubles 8-1 to start the day, before the tandem of
Leandra RoelkerÂ
(Allentown, Pa. / Salisbury) and
Elaina Rochford (West Chester, Pa. / Henderson) claimed second doubles by the same score. The team of
Julia Mowrey (Bethlehem, Pa. / Notre Dame) and
Sofia Von der Heyde (Exton, Pa. / Great Valley) capped off doubles action with a close 8-6 win at position three to complete the sweep and give Von der Heyde her first collegiate victory as a Golden Ram.
Up 3-0, West Chester powered through singles play - only dropping one contest overall en route to the convincing 8-1 conference win.
The Golden Rams will travel to play Kutztown tomorrow (March 28) at 2:00 p.m., before welcoming Holy Family to the South Campus Courts for a match on Thursday (March 29) at 2:00 p.m.
