WEST CHESTER, Pa. - After downing ASA College 5-4 in hard-fight exhibition match yesterday, the West Chester University men's tennis team returned to the South Campus Tennis Courts on Thursday afternoon to host Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) foe Millersville University.
Despite losing their top singles player to a withdraw prior to the match, the Golden Rams (0-13, 0-4 PSAC) battled the Marauders (2-13, 1-4 PSAC) close all day but eventually ended the contest on the wrong end of a 5-4 decision on Thursday.Â
West Chester got its lone doubles victory of the afternoon at second flight, as the duo of
Adam Courtemanche (GREENVILLE, RI/SMITHFIELD) andÂ
Aiden HenkenÂ
(HARRISBURG, PA./CENTRAL DAUPHIN) banded together to secure the 8-3 win at position two and bring the score to 2-1 in favor of the visitors heading into singles play.
Courtemanche won his second match of the day at No. 4 singles in convincing fashion, downing Millersville's Brandon Miller 6-1,6-0 for the Golden Rams' first singles win of the afternoon.
Gavin Kenny (HANOVER, PA/SOUTH WESTERN)Â followed with a similar 6-1,6-0 win at position six to knot the match at 3-3, but the Marauders would end the day by claiming two of the final three singles contests to grab the 5-4 victory inside the South Campus Tennis Courts on Thursday afternoon.
The Golden Rams will look to earn their first victory of the season on Saturday, April 14, as the team travels to square off against West Virginia Wesleyan College in a non-conference match scheduled to start at 2:00 p.m.
