KUTZTOWN, Pa. - The West Chester University men's tennis team continued conference play on Thursday, hitting the road to square off against Kutztown University at the Keystone Tennis Courts.
Despite a two-win day by
Lucas Von der Heyde (Exton, Pa. / Great Valley), the Golden Rams fell to the host Golden Bears 7-2 on Thursday afternoon to drop WCU to 0-10 on the year and 0-2 in Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) play.
Von der Heyde and
Charlie Rushing (Yardley, Pa. / Pennsbury) nabbed West Chester's lone doubles point on the afternoon after defeating KU's Nikolay Kodinov and Gabriel Souza 8-2 at first position - giving the duo their first doubles victory in the last seven matches.
Entering Thursday on a six-match losing streak in singles, Von der Heyde secured the 6-3,7-6 win over KU's Nikolay Kodinov at second flight to give the Golden Rams their second and final point of the contest.
West Chester will eye its first victory of the season this weekend, as the team welcomes PSAC representative Mercyhurst to town for a match on Saturday afternoon. Due to predicted inclement weather, Saturday's conference match will be played at the Hersey Racquet Club.
