AFCA Coaches Poll
WACO, Texas - West Chester University's football team jumped from No. 23 to No. 18 in the latest American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division 2 coaches poll it was revealed by that organization Monday afternoon.
The Golden Rams (2-0), who were not ranked in the preseason poll, debuted last week following a 44-6 victory on the road over Bentley. They jumped five spots this week following a 31-7 victory over Gannon in the Rams' home opener at John A. Farrell Stadium.
West Chester has outscored its opponents 75-13 in the team's first two games of the 2018 season. The Golden Rams feature the sixth-ranked rushing defense in the country through the first two games of the season while boasting of the fourth-best scoring defense.
Texas A&M-Commerce still holds the top spot with 26 first-place votes. Minnesota State moves up to No. 2 with three first-place votes. The Mavericks are followed by Indiana (Pa.), Northwest Missouri State and Grand Valley State (Mich.), who round out the Top 5.
Ashland (Ohio) and Findlay (Ohio) dropped out of the poll, which made room for No. 23 Pittsburg State (Kan.) and No. 25 Southern Arkansas. This is the Gorillas first appearance in the AFCA Division II Coaches' Top 25 since October 12, 2015. The Muleriders were last ranked at No. 22 in the 2017 preseason poll, but dropped out after the first week and never returned.Â
