EAST STROUDSBURG, Pa.- The West Chester University men's soccer team (2-1-0, 1-0-0 PSAC) took to the road on Wednesday evening to face PSAC rival East Stroudsburg (2-2-0, 0-1-0 PSAC). West Chester used an early goal off the foot of
Jason Pixley (Philadelphia, Pa./Central) to come away with the pivotal 1-0 road victory on Wednesday night.
How it Happened:
- In the eighth minute, Pixley continued his hot start to the year turning a cross from Eric Greer (Chadds Ford, Pa.) into a goal to give West Chester the early 1-0 lead.
- This was all the offensive support that Will Marshall (North Versailles, Pa./East Allegheny) would need as he played well in goal throughout the evening making five big saves to keep a pesky East Stroudsburg team off the scoreboard. Marshall's counterpart East Stroudsburg goalie Will Borema made two saves of his own but East Stroudsburg was unable to overcome the early West Chester goal in the loss.
Inside the Box Score:
- East Stroudsburg outshot West Chester by an 11-8 margin including a 5-3 advantage in shots on goal although West Chester did hold a 2-0 advantage in corner kicks in the match.
- Pixley remains the only Golden Ram to score a goal in 2018 as he tallied his second goal of the season in the victory.
- Greer recorded his first collegiate assist and point in the victory.
- Marshall made his first start in goal as a Golden Ram and also picked up his first complete-game shutout and victory in tonight's victory.
