No. 7 West Chester Shuts Out IUP, 7-0


INDIANA, Pa. – So., Emma Velez (Coatesville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) registered a hat trick, while Caitlin Kelly (Coatesville, Pa./Bishop Shanahan) netted a pair of goals, to lead No. 7 West Chester to a 7-0 victory over host Indiana, (Pa.) at Frank Cignetti Field Saturday afternoon.
 
West Chester (2-1) won its second straight game, following a season-opening loss, while IUP (1-3) dropped its second straight. The game was a non-league tilt, despite both schools competing in the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC).
 
How It Happened
  • West Chester scored five times in the first half to jump out to a 5-0 lead by halftime. That run included a four-goal spurt over a seven-minute span.
  • Velez recorded her first career hat trick
  • Kelly scored back-to-back goals off assists from Caitlin McNamara (Buderim, Australia).
  • McNamara finished with three assists on the day.
  • Emily Evans (Newark, Del./St. Mark's) and Katie Thompson (Washington, N.J./Warren Hills) also scored.
