WEST CHESTER, Pa.- The No.6 West Chester University women's soccer team (4-0-1, 3-0-1 PSAC) was back on the home pitch for the second time this season against PSAC opponent Mercyhurst (2-2-0, 1-2-0 PSAC). West Chester had the upper hand throughout the contest and this showed in the final score as the Golden Rams won by a final score of 4-0.
How it Happened:
- In the first half, West Chester clearly had the better of the play dominating the possession and taking six shots including three shots on goal compared to no shots for Mercyhurst.
- Mercyhurst goalie Vilde Wold played well during the opening half making three saves, which combined with some bad luck for West Chester kept the Golden Rams off the scoreboard heading to the break.
- In the second half, West Chester continued to apply constant pressure and it paid dividends as West Chester used this pressure to score four second half goals in the victory.
- Madison Baxter (Downingtown, Pa./Downingtown East) opened the scoring in the 58th minute with a beautiful shot into the far corner over a diving goalie after taking an assist from Jenny Bail (Carlisle, Pa./Cumberland Valley) to give the Golden Rams the 1-0 lead.
- This lead grew in the 67th minute when Kendall Rich (West Long Branch, N.J./Shore Regional) scored her first goal of two goals on the day off an assist from Baxter to stretch the lead to 2-0. Rich and Baxter connected again just three minutes later on a cross to the far post to make the score 3-0 in favor of the Golden Rams.
- West Chester added one more insurance goal in the 89th minute when Deanna Laubach (Mechanicsburg, Pa./Cumberland Valley) took a cross from Madison Joynes (Philadelphia, Pa./Nazareth Academy) and knocked it past a diving goalie to make the score 4-0 before the final whistle.
Inside the Numbers:
- West Chester maintained its advantage in shots taking 16 total shots including 12 shots on goal compared to just five total shots and four shots on goal for Mercyhurst.
- Wold ended the day making eight impressive saves while McKenna Mullin (Langhorne, Pa./Neshaminy) and Brooke Myers (Middletown, Pa./Middletown Area) split the time in goal combining for four saves on the afternoon as Mullin made one save while Myers made three.
- West Chester also held an advantage in corner kicks taking seven corner kicks while Mercyhurst did not record any corners.

West Chester will remain home to complete its longest home stand of the season on Friday afternoon against Pitt-Johnstown with that game scheduled to kick off at 1:30 p.m.
