Tyler Morrissey Named PSAC East Defensive Athlete Of The Week

LOCK HAVEN, Pa. - West Chester University senior LB Tyler Morrissey (Springfield, Pa./Springfield-DELCO) was named the Pennsylvania State Athletic Conference (PSAC) defensive athlete of the week, it was announced by that organization Monday morning. It marks the the third straight week that the Golden Rams football team has had somebody recognized in the weekly awards.

Morrissey finished Saturday's game at Seton Hill with nine tackles and a forced fumble in helping West Chester (3-0) to a 59-14 victory. Morrissey also recorded 1.5 sacks and 2.5 tackles for a loss. Seven of his nine stops were solo efforts as well.

The All-American linebacker was instrumental in shutting down Seton Hill star running back Cinque Sweeting. The Griffins mustered just 68 rushing yards in the game, and Sweeting had just 32 yards on the ground.

Morrissey becomes the second defensive player for the Golden Rams to be honored this season, joining fellow linebacker, Nate Barnes, who was recognized following week one. West Chester has had four weekly award winners in the first three weeks of the season.

West Chester opens PSAC Eastern Division play at home Saturday against Millersville University at John A. Farrell Stadium. Kickoff is set for 12 p.m. on Community Day at the stadium.
